I occasionally sneak a look at other reviews of a book before I review it myself and such was the case with this book. I was a little surprised by some of the negative reviews. Truly Trenton Lee Steward has a tough job writing another unrelated book to his popular Mysterious Benedict Society series, and thus for many, they will inevitably compare this book to those books. However, if you are able to take this book on its own merits, it has plenty of charm.
In my case, I found it to be excellent from an adult reader's perspective. For, sure you see some stylistic similarities between the plot elements of this book and the Mysterious Benedict books, but at this point, there's no shame in that. After all, Hallmark, Hardy Boys, and Nancy Drew do it a million times over, and Stewart has just done this once!
Similarities aside, the thrillingly creative world Stewart created around the Watch in this book was enchanting! And, (back to similiarties again) I love, love, the aspects of community, friendship, and family this book provides. There are so many people in this world who want to feel this, and Trenton Stewart shows the way forward with his plots.
