The Invisible Kingdom

Reimagining Chronic Illness
By: Meghan O'Rourke

Book Review

Meghan O'Rourke architects words and phrases in a space that has often defied words. She details her experience with the messy world of undiagnosed autoimmune disease, and I hope her work here will begin to help the hundreds of thousands of people without a voice to begin to gain a proper hearing. She is thorough, realistic, and multi-dimensional.

This book is a MUST READ for anybody in their life who struggles with illness. O'Rourke will challenge your framework for dealing with illness in no small way. She will also give you a substantive view into the devastating struggles of a chronically ill person who doesn't fit into the box of understanding of pretty much everybody else in their life and how further exhausting this is.

There is some occasional language in this book as well as a couple places where she references some more mature themes. She also doesn't hesitate to point her finger at where Christianity has handled illness inadequately. None of these things are overdone, but they are present.

Book Reviews

I am nuts about books. I read on all kinds of topics. I attempt to review each book I read for the sake of my own enrichment as well as conversation starters with others.
